Job Description Headway Environmental is seeking experienced and dedicated On-Call Field Biologists/Wetland Delineators to join our team. The ideal candidates will have a minimum of 3 years of field experience in environmental biology, particularly in the Southwestern United States and the Gulf Coast region. Candidates with project management experience will be given preference. These positions offer flexible scheduling and the potential for advancement to full-time salaried roles within our organization. Hire Type: Hourly, as needed Schedule: Availability to work full-time, as needed Location: Field-based, Southwest Job Duties <ul><li>Conduct field assessments and surveys to identify and characterize wetlands, habitats, and wildlife populations in accordance with regulatory requirements and project specifications</li><li>Perform wetland delineations, including field data collection, vegetation assessments, soil sampling, and mapping using GPS and GIS technologies</li><li>Compile and analyze field data to prepare accurate reports, maps, and permit applications for regulatory compliance</li><li>Collaborate with project managers, clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met within established timelines and budgets</li><li>Assist in the development and implementation of mitigation plans, habitat restoration projects, and environmental monitoring programs</li><li>Maintain compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and permits, including the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and National Environmental Policy Act</li><li>Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff members as needed </li></ul>Required Qualifications: <ul><li>Bachelor's or Master’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related field</li><li>3+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, with a focus on field biology, wetland delineation, and habitat assessment</li><li>Proficiency in plant identification, wetland classification, and wildlife survey techniques</li><li>Strong understanding of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes</li><li>Experience using GPS/GIS technology for data collection and mapping </li></ul>Preferred Skills <ul><li>Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in dynamic field environments</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences</li><li>Project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and client coordination </li></ul>Benefits: <ul><li>Competitive hourly wage commensurate with experience</li><li>Flexible scheduling with on-call opportunities</li><li>Potential for full-time salaried employment with comprehensive benefits package</li><li>Professional development and training opportunities</li><li>Collaborative and supportive work environment </li></ul>Physical And Mental Requirements And Work Environment <ul><li>Regular fieldwork or on-site inspections are required, which necessitates ability to frequently travel/drive a vehicle (sight, hearing, and manual manipulation of driving mechanisms), cognitive ability to plan travel, use maps or GPS navigation systems. </li><li>May require ambulation and movement to enable walking or hiking 10+ miles per day on rough and/or hazardous terrain and occasional climbing, crouching, kneeling, balancing on rough terrain. Fieldwork may involve exposure to conditions of rain, sun, heat, wind, dust, etc., with exposure to animals, plants, wet conditions, biting insects, poison oak, etc. May require use of respiratory equipment. </li><li>Some fieldwork may require carrying loads up to 25 pounds or work around heavy construction equipment. </li><li>Vision is required to observe environmental phenomena and record and translate observations into text (either keyboard entry on a computer or dictation and audio translation of recording to Standard English scientific text). </li><li>Mental requirements include ability to organize one’s own work or that of crew members; ability to recognize and observe scientific data and analyze data as well as ability to perform calculations. Must also be able to observe social and professional interactions and respond appropriately. </li><li>Some work is performed primarily in an indoor environment and requires sustained sitting and use of fingers, hands, and arms to operate a computer and perform keyboard entry of data or document preparation (or equivalent with accommodation).
