- The Licensed Practical Nurse works within the framework of the Patient Care Services Organization as a member of the health care team.
- The primary responsibilities of the Licensed Practical Nurse is to deliver patient care under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse within the realm of the New York State Practice Act.
- The LPN gathers, and documents data related to physiologic, cognitive, cultural, and spiritual status, assists in goal directed plans of care which are evidence-based and age specific, and implements care through utilization and adherence to established standards which define the structure, process, and desired patient outcomes of the nursing process, and communicates information needing referral to RPN and reinforces teaching plan established by RPN.
- The LPN maintains confidentiality of information, demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age and special characteristics of the patients served, and performs data collection/documents interventions within protocol or plan of care and objective patient care data on Daily System Assessment.
- Medication administration, assisting and providing care to clients with peripheral IV Therapy only (no central line devices), performing phlebotomy, safety measures, personal hygiene skills, nutritional skills, elimination skills, heat and cold applications, admission/transfers/discharge, perioperative care, musculosketal skills, respiratory skills, transfer/transport skills, and specimen collection/testing.
