- General SummaryThe Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) performs a variety of clerical functions in the clinical setting.
- The HUC interacts with both internal and external Customers and utilizes the Hospital Information System to accurately perform order entry, transcribe physician orders, and retrieve patient data.
- The HUC maintains and processes all medical record information.
- Enters patient data into the computer, on Kardex and MAR. Consults with MD or RN to clarify orders and communicates when an order cannot be carried out.
- Participate in patient placement by: Assuring that discharges are communicated quickly to the central HUC station Assuring that open beds are identified and made ready by housekeeping in a timely manner Updating the nursing supervisor, admitting and the nursing director on patient flow issues Communicating new admissions and discharges to the staff in a timely manner.
