- The GIS Technician position requires application of geo-spatial mapping and analysis skills to convert field information into digital maps and geographic data and create a centralized digital repository.
- Collects, edits, analyzes, and audits geospatial data and ensures accuracy by updating geometry, attributes, and metadata.
- Converts data between software such as CAD to GIS or GIS to CAD using pre-developed tools; creates GIS data from other sources such as As-builts, record drawings, surveys, deeds, and orthoimage.
- Uses Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and/or mobile applications to perform field data collection and Microsoft Excel and Access to create databases, assists in geodatabase and data dictionary design.
- Performs quality control on GIS data including researching, interpreting, and validating sources of information to identify and correct errors or omissions in data, and to keep data in compliance with GIS data standards.
