- Job Overview:The Oncology Clinical Genetics Nurse Navigator (NN)/Genetic Counselor (GC) functions to provide access to quality care for patients and families at risk for cancer.
- In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, this provider assists patients along the continuum of care from exploration of familial risk, diagnosis of genetic risk, high-risk physical findings, prevention strategies, diagnosis and through treatment and survivorship.
- The NN/GC meets with patients and family members for individual cancer risk assessment sessions; including detailed discussion of basic genetics, risk for cancer development based on family/personal history, discussion of genetic testing procedures and possible test results, and medical management implications of genetic test results.
- QualificationsWork requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through a Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in Genetic Counseling or Human Genetics or closely related field.
