- to board U.S.-flagged vessels that may require pilot escort (due to vessel displacement or length) into and out of ports in the New England region.
- Federally Licensed Pilots standby, and in the event of local Pilot unavailability will board US-flagged vessels, providing professional guidance to assist the master/captain in the safe navigation to and from port.
- Have applicable U.S. Coast Guard pilotage endorsements for at minimum "Narragansett Bay and Providence River from "NB" Buoy to Providence, RI, via the East or West Passage and Davisville" and sufficient trips to secure unlimited tonnage / no tonnage restrictions.
- Ensure that vessel master has understanding and implementation of USCG Rules of the Road, proper vessel safety lighting, sufficient lookouts posted, proper VHF procedures and security calls are made, and that safe speed is maintained.
