- Promotes, sustains, and executes research in: (a) technologies for affordability for the Army's conventional facilities and for environmental stewardship in its base operations to include explosive manufacture and ground support systems; and (b) for Army and DOD-funded technology transfer programs to include the establishment and operation of prototypical product strategic support centers until a capability is established in an operational element in the Army, DOD, or civilian sector.
- Research activities directed involve, but are not limited to, the fields of physics, chemistry, computer science, computer engineering, urban and regional planning, soil science, botany, biology, agronomy, mathematics, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, acoustics, electrical and electronic engineering, ceramics, metallurgy, architecture, architectural engineering, information sciences, cultural resources, natural resources, and ecology.
- Please Note: Current career SES members, former career SES members with reinstatement eligibility, and SES Candidate Development Program (CDP) graduates, who have been certified by the OPM do not need to address ECQs. However, Current or Former SES members must provide an SF-50 showing their status or reinstatement eligibility and Candidates who have successfully graduated from an OPM approved Candidate Development Program must submit a copy of their ECQ certification.
- Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT)1, or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration.
- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
