- The position provides direction and oversight of the HPE service and education support for a full spectrum of paid and without compensation (WOC) HPTs and others associated with a complex healthcare system, which includes employees, upper-level facility management, affiliate schools, and HPTs. HPT academic levels include undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students, externs, interns, residents, fellows, and VA advanced fellows; and pre- and post-doctoral fellows.
- The DEO will be expected to establish a high level of credibility with clinical and educational leadership throughout the VHA and the academic community.
- Personal characteristics include self-direction, project organization, and interpersonal effectiveness.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Practice Description Duties include but not limited to: Advocating for adequate resources for the HPE functions at the VA medical facility and possibly VISN levels.
