- The Associate Administrator serves as NHTSAs lead grant administration and field safety program executive whose goal is to create highway safety programs that will significantly reduce roadway crashes and fatalities.
- Directs activities of NHTSA headquarters Office of Grants Management and Operations and the ten regional offices in providing guidance to the regions for their contacts with States and local communities that are designed to accomplish the Agency mission while fully meeting its statutory requirements.
- Works closely with NHTSA Chief Information Officer to manage some of the Agencys major information systems for grants, and with the Agencys Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Chief Counsel to administer NHTSAs grant funds to States and Territories.
- Acts to improve regional offices operations and decides such significant regional matters as organizational changes, delegations of authority and responsibility, establishment of program plans, key personnel appointments and resource allocations.
