- Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine vector control duties and general unskilled labor in source reduction activities.
- Surveys assigned field areas including ponds, ditches, flood control channels, stormwater structures, freeways, creeks, lakes, marshy areas, residential premises, spas, and swimming pools for mosquito breeding sources and other vectors; prepares inspection reports and records pesticide usage.
- Removes water from mosquito breeding sources; treats areas where stagnant water cannot be removed or prevented; selects appropriate material and dosage rates and applies pesticides to obtain proper coverage and efficacy; monitors assigned area and re-inspects treated areas periodically to evaluate effectiveness; reapplies pesticide as needed; sets traps inside storm drains and collects mosquitoes for surveillance.
- Clears drainage channels, removes debris, and cuts vegetation; performs general labor and routine equipment operations in source reduction activities.
- Receives and responds to service requests; contacts property owners and schedules inspection appointments; conducts inspections to identify new invasive mosquito species; educates property owners and the general public on optimal prevention and reduction of invasive species.
