- Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter Department: Disability Resources and Accessibility Reports To: Director of Disability Resources FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Part-time, Temporary Job Code: E-1 Summary: Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Disability Resources, provides sign language interpreting services for classroom and campus activities.
- The interpreter facilitates communication between hearing and deaf/hard of hearing individuals; serves as a liaison between deaf/hard of hearing students and hearing students, faculty, and staff; and performs related work as required.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following: Interpret or transliterate lectures, discussions, meetings, events, and other activities using manual sign system appropriate for the language and the cultural background of deaf/hard of hearing students and staff.
- Accurately voice interpret deaf/hard of hearing students signs into fluent English for other students, faculty, and college staff.
- Education and/or experience that demonstrates the following: Demonstrate fluency in ASL/transliteration both receptively (sign-to-voice) and expressively (voice-to-sign).
