Senior Manager – SG&A Accounting
OverviewA growing publicly traded biotechnology company is seeking a Senior Manager, SG&A Accounting to lead SG&A accounting operations and serve as a strategic finance partner across more than 40 departments. This individual will oversee the close process for SG&A activities, manage and mentor accounting staff, and help drive process improvement and scalability initiatives as the organization continues to grow.The role offers strong visibility across the business and significant exposure to operational accounting, contract review, SEC reporting support, and cross-functional partnership within a fast-paced public company environment.ResponsibilitiesLead the financial close process for SG&A-related activities in accordance with GAAPOversee day-to-day SG&A accounting operations, including general ledger management, journal entries, reconciliations, and close supportServe as a finance partner to over 40 departments across the organizationDrive projects and system/process improvement initiatives to support scalability and operational efficiencyManage and mentor accounting staff while fostering team development and accountabilityReview and determine appropriate accounting treatment for a variety of contracts and agreements, including:Consulting and professional services agreementsSaaS and subscription-based contractsMilestone-based agreementsMedical grants and sponsorshipsConference and marketing agreementsResearch and analytical service agreementsAssess accounting treatment related to expenses, accruals, prepaids, and capitalizationReview invoices and ensure expenses are properly recorded in the accounting systemSupport quarterly reviews, year-end audits, and SEC reporting activitiesBuild strong relationships with business leaders and act as a trusted accounting advisorContinually identify and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and accuracyRequirementsBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance8+ years of relevant accounting experience, including accounting management experienceStrong understanding of GAAP and operational accounting processesPrior experience within biotech or pharmaceutical environments preferredCPA strongly preferredBig Four experience is a strong plusExperience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems preferredStrong project management and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and work within tight deadlinesStrong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement capabilitiesExcellent communication and cross-functional partnership skillsSelf-starter mentality with strong accountability and attention to detail
