Accounting Manager

Accounting ManagerStep is seeking an Accounting Manager, to play an impactful role on the finance team. This is the first dedicated accounting hire who will report directly to the Step Controller. You will own the month end close while driving key accounting initiatives, projects and process improvements shaping the future of the accounting function. This is a high-visibility and high-ownership role. You are self-sufficient, decisive, and ready to operate within a world class finance team in a fast-scaling fintech.Responsibilities:Own the full-cycle close - set and manage the close calendar, prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations, and ensure timely and accurate period-end close on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basisLead the external audit, serving as primary point of contact for auditors and manage PBC lists and inquiriesPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with complete flux and variance analysisSupport the team on critical accounting projects, such as Step's Quickbooks to Netsuite migration or new product launchesImplement, and maintain corporate accounting policies, internal controls, and scalable process documentationDrive automation and process improvement initiatives across the accounting function, leveraging the full tech stack to reduce manual work and increase accuracyReview and provide quality oversight on work prepared by junior team members and outsourced accounting partnersPartner cross-functionally with other departments on a variety of projects or requestsWhat You Bring:57 years of accounting experience, with a mix of public and private preferredCPA designation (or CPA candidate) with proven understanding of U.S. GAAPYou've owned a full-cycle close independentlyTech proficiency across NetSuite (required) and ideally QBO, Ramp, and AirbaseStrong analytical and problem solving skillsYou're an incredible teammate with a positive attitude and mindsetYou've reviewed & overseen the work of others, whether junior staff, offshore teams, or outsourced partnersYou're highly organized, proactive and comfortable operating autonomously in a fast-paced, high-growth environmentAdvanced Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets skills, with the ability to manipulate and digest mass amounts of dataStrong communicator with interpersonal skills to engage effectively with internal stakeholders and external partnersBonus Points: Knowledge of and/or experience in the banking and payments industrySQL and Looker experienceWorking at Step & Beast Industries:We are building a next-generation consumer and services platform with global reach and long-term ambition.Benefits:Competitive SalaryGenerous Medical, Dental, Vision, and company-paid Life Insurance401k Plan with Safe Harbor company-matchingFlexible vacation policy and paid company holidaysCompany-provided technology package
