osition Title: Director of Special Education CooperativeReports To: Cooperative Governing Board / SuperintendentsPosition SummaryThe Director of the Special Education Cooperative provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of special education services across member districts. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations while supporting high-quality, cost-effective services that meet the diverse needs of students.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Program OversightProvide overall leadership for cooperative special education servicesCoordinate programs and services across member districtsDevelop and implement a shared vision focused on student outcomesSupport districts in meeting the needs of students with disabilitiesCompliance & AccountabilityEnsure compliance with IDEA, Article 7, and all state/federal regulationsMonitor IEP processes, timelines, and documentationLead preparation for audits, monitoring, and state reportingStay current on changes in legislation and communicate updates to districtsStaff Supervision & SupportSupervise cooperative staff (e.g., psychologists, therapists, behavior specialists)Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of staffProvide coaching and professional development for staff and administratorsFoster a collaborative and supportive team cultureFinancial ManagementDevelop and manage the cooperative budgetAllocate resources equitably and efficiently across districtsOversee state and federal grant funds (e.g., IDEA)Provide financial reports and recommendations to the governing boardCollaboration & CommunicationServe as the primary liaison between member districts and the cooperativeFacilitate regular meetings with superintendents, principals, and special education staffBuild partnerships with community agencies and service providersCommunicate clearly with families, staff, and stakeholdersProgram Development & ImprovementAnalyze data to guide decision-making and improve servicesLead continuous improvement efforts across the cooperativeSupport development of programs for high-need areas (e.g., behavior, transition, early childhood)Ensure equitable access to services for all studentsQualificationsMaster's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field (required)Valid Indiana administrative license (or ability to obtain)Experience with special education law, compliance, and program managementStrong leadership, communication, and organizational skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience in a leadership role (e.g., director, coordinator, principal)Experience managing budgets and grantsExperience working within a cooperative or multi-district settingKey AttributesCollaborative and solutions-orientedStrong advocate for students with diverse needsHigh attention to detail and complianceAbility to balance district needs with cooperative prioritiesCommitment to continuous improvementFLSA Exempt260-Day Contract
