Library Technical Services Assistant
The Montgomery College Library in Rockville, Maryland seeks a library technical assistant to support electronic resource management. Candidates should be comfortable with technology, adept at learning new library technology, have knowledge of library management systems, knowledgebases, and discovery layers, possess very strong attention to detail, and strong communication and customer service skills. The role requires explaining technical terms to library users and responding to e-resource troubleshooting tickets at a first-tier level. This position is eligible for telework one day per week.
Duties
Tracks and maintains financial, bibliographic, and holdings data for database, e-book, and e-journal collections in the library management system.
Works with Electronic Resource Management & Discovery Services on managing e-resource subscriptions.
Updates and reviews e-resource access content on the library website and FAQs database.
Assists the Electronic Resource Management & Discovery Services Librarian with e-resource trial requests, sets up public access to trials, and tracks trial usage.
Assists the Resource Description and Acquisitions Supervisor with bibliographic access to e-resources by providing persistent URLs for e-resources for cataloging.
Creates invoice records in the library management system.
Proactively manages e-resource changes to ensure access to resources both on- and off-campus and alerts library staff of access and availability changes. Assists with the implementation of new e-resource tools and systems.
Collaborates with the Electronic Resources & Discovery Services Librarian on triaging electronic resource collection troubleshooting requests from students, faculty, and staff via online ticketing system, phone, and email.
Works effectively on electronic resource collection online platforms to ensure configuration of library technologies and branding, including Open URL, subscription/access status, and IP addresses are up-to-date and accurate.
Works closely with the Electronic Resource Management & Discovery Services Librarian on the management and maintenance of off-campus access for all students, faculty, and staff to the e-resource collections.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in accounting, business, computer science, or related field.
Two years of experience working in a library, preferably in an educational environment.
Equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise.
Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Hiring Range
$23.80 – $30.93 per hour (maximum $38.06 per hour).
