EM/HM PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: Job Summary: The Emergency and Hospitalist Medicine Physician Assistant will deliver primary health care in the Emergency Department or Inpatient setting to include, but not limited to, the recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries, and the provisioning of care across the health care continuum with emphasis on early detection, treatment, and prevention of diseases, Essential Functions:Obtains and records patient historyPerforms physical and medical screening examinationsCompletes diagnostic and therapeutic studiesOrders diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or other therapies as appropriateEstablishes diagnostic decision-making and initiates a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications, additional therapeutic modalities, etcCoordinates patient care with other members of the health care teamInitiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient managementInstructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health, referring patients to appropriate specialists/resourcesCompletes charting in a thorough and timely mannerAdequately manages patient flow in the Emergency Department or inpatient unitPerforms procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physicianWorks within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standardsActively participates in Department staff meetings and risk management educationCompletes required courses, i,e,HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME /CEU requirementsOther duties as assigned Job Requirements:Master's Degree in Physician Assistant StudiesPhysician Assistant CertificationRegistration & Licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners/ Physician Assistant Advisory requiredBasic Life Support and Advanced Life Support CertificationsNew Jersey CDS and DEA LicensureActive membership in a professional organization preferredAbility and willingness accommodate scheduling needs including working extended hours, weekdays, overnights, weekends, and holidays Knowledge and Skills:Medical and broad based clinical emergency medicine knowledgeStrong verbal and written communication skillsExcellent time management skillsAbility to effectively and successfully work with all emergency department and hospital employees Additional Information: RWJBarnabas Health is the most comprehensive health care delivery system in New Jersey, with a service area covering five million people.
