Geotechnical Technician

Job Title: Geotechnical TechnicianJob DescriptionAs a Geotechnical Technician, you will engage in subsurface exploration using conventional drilling and in-situ testing techniques. Your role will involve drilling operations such as auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, air rotary, and diamond bit coring techniques. You will participate in in-situ testing procedures, including cone penetration testing and seismic cone penetration testing, while installing instrumentation, piezometers, and monitor wells.Responsibilities+ Adhere to safety standards throughout all operations.+ Work collaboratively as part of a multiple-person team on various projects.+ Field locate required exploration points and determine their elevations.+ Develop site reconnaissance information.+ Load soil samples and exploration tools onto trucks or drill rigs.+ Prepare and review boring logs using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).+ Complete necessary US Department of Transportation (DOT) paperwork.+ Provide input on exploration tasks and perform maintenance tasks as needed.+ Participate in pre-task planning and report any safety issues to management.+ Maintain quality standards on all projects.+ Train in various aspects of becoming a driller/exploration team member.+ Act as an assistant to the lead operator in performing routine exploration tasks.+ Drive medium-duty trucks to various job sites.+ Operate and maintain drill rigs and associated equipment.+ Perform geotechnical and environmental drilling, including soil drilling and sampling.+ Maintain records and file reports.+ Follow OSHA and company safety procedures.+ Conduct verbal communications with clients.Essential Skills+ Experience in construction, drilling, and agriculture-related tasks.+ Possession of a KS Class B CDL.+ Knowledge of equipment maintenance, operation, and basic survey techniques.+ Ability to read civil plans.Additional Skills & Qualifications+ Experience in landscaping, farming, roofing, and general labor tasks.+ Familiarity with fence and deck construction.Work EnvironmentThe position involves outdoor fieldwork with exposure to all elements. Expect 30% regional travel. The work environment requires adherence to safety protocols and includes operating in various weather conditions.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
