This position is located in Orleans Parish.This is a temporary job appointment that may last up to 4 years only.Office of Teaching & Learning – Job Focus AreaThe Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) provides guidance and support to all publicly funded early childhood centers, elementary and secondary schools in Louisiana. The department offers tools and resources to schools and school systems to support classroom instruction, assessments, workforce development, and college and career preparation.We're looking for an Education Consultant 3 to serve as the kindergarten-fifth grade literacy specialist and field support. This position is responsible for developing K-5 literacy resources, supporting third grade promotion, and providing school and system literacy field support to assigned schools. This EC3 position is part of the Teaching and Learning Division under the Literacy team.QualificationsTeaching experience preferably in kindergarten-fifth grade ELA classroomsProviding professional developmentHeld a leadership or mentoring position within a school or school systemStrong communication and management skillsKnowledge of the Science of ReadingKnowledge regarding the administration and data analysis of DIBELSExperience Requirements:Seven years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; ORSix years of full-time work experience plus four years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; ORA bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; ORAn advanced degree plus three years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services.Job DutiesDevelop resources and tools to support grade K-5 teachers and improve literacy in K-5 classrooms.Develop and deliver professional development that supports kindergarten through fifth grade teachers in building knowledge of the foundations of reading and how it impacts their level of instruction, implementation of literacy practices, use of quality resources and tools, such as high quality curriculum, assessments, and meeting state and federal policy requirements.Build guidance documents and tools for implementation in K-5 classrooms.Develop guidance and support around third grade promotion.Train and support grade K-5 teachers through the implementation of local literacy plans, with focus on improving and supporting reading achievement.Provide field support.Plan, conduct, and evaluate staff development and in-service training (including national, state, and regional workshops, hearings, conferences) for personnel in the Department of Education, local education agencies, colleges and universities, technical colleges, special committees and task forces, professional associations and organizations, special interest groups.Assist in the implementation of specific projects to support the goals established by the Division of K-12 Literacy, which may include strategic planning, grants, contracts, and administration.Perform all other duties as directed by the supervisor, division director, and/or Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.Position-Specific DetailsAppointment Type: Job Appointment. Work hours will be determined.Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
