A leading engineering and mechanical solutions organization is seeking a Senior Building Automation Systems Specialist to support the delivery, testing, optimization, and long-term performance of complex building automation systems.
This position is ideal for an experienced controls professional who enjoys solving technical challenges, troubleshooting sophisticated HVAC systems, and helping customers maximize operational performance. You'll play a critical role in commissioning, programming, graphics development, system diagnostics, and mentoring others while working on a diverse range of commercial and industrial facilities.
The Opportunity
In this role, you'll transform design intent into fully operational building automation systems that improve occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and system reliability.
You'll work closely with project teams, field personnel, and customers to verify installations, troubleshoot controls, fine-tune system performance, and deliver automation solutions that exceed expectations.
Whether you're commissioning a new facility, resolving complex controls issues, developing intuitive graphics, or mentoring junior technicians, you'll have a direct impact on project success and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Building Automation & Controls
Perform point-to-point verification, sequence testing, startup, and commissioning activities
Validate system operation through functional performance testing and operational checks
Diagnose and resolve complex controls, HVAC, electrical, and integration issues
Modify, optimize, and troubleshoot building automation programming to improve performance
Analyze trends and system data to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and reliability
Graphics Development & Visualization
Develop and maintain high-quality system graphics, dashboards, floor plans, and user interfaces
Create visualization tools that simplify system operation and improve customer engagement
Support operators and facility teams with intuitive graphics and system navigation tools
Technical Leadership
Serve as a technical resource for project teams, field personnel, and customers
Provide guidance and mentorship to technicians and junior controls professionals
Share best practices that improve productivity, quality, and safety
Assist with problem-solving efforts on challenging projects and service engagements
Documentation & Customer Support
Review project drawings, specifications, control sequences, and design documents
Maintain accurate commissioning records, test reports, punch lists, training materials, and closeout documentation
Communicate technical findings, recommendations, and solutions to customers and project stakeholders
Support long-term customer relationships through responsive service and technical expertise

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in building automation, HVAC controls, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or related technical fields
3+ years of experience developing, modifying, or supporting building automation programming
Strong knowledge of HVAC equipment, control strategies, sequences of operation, and BAS platforms
Experience performing commissioning, system testing, troubleshooting, equipment inspection, maintenance, and quality assurance activities
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Visio, Microsoft Office, and technical documentation tools
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
Excellent communication skills with both customers and internal teams
Ability to travel to project and customer sites as needed
Ability to obtain or maintain Tridium certification
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Technology, or related discipline
Experience with Niagara/Tridium platforms
Familiarity with KMC, Honeywell, Spyder, Distech, Allen-Bradley, or similar controls technologies
Knowledge of refrigeration systems, advanced HVAC applications, and energy management strategies
Experience training, mentoring, or leading technical personnel
