This individual will provide desktop maintenance of mission-critical systems and infrastructure, including Windows Servers, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and Nutanix hyper-converged platform solutions.The successful candidate will serve as a member of a dynamic team responsible for ensuring the performance, reliability, and security of a large-scale enterprise IT environment. The Systems Administrator I - Desktop Support will be responsible for desktop administration, patch management, system troubleshooting, and the implementation of new capabilities to meet operational and mission requirements. This role requires direct on-site support in the Springfield, VA location.Key Responsibilities:Perform day-to-day system administration tasks to ensure the availability, security, and performance of critical enterprise Windows Server and RHEL systems. Monitor system performance and maintain enterprise infrastructure for compliance with security and reliability requirements. Manage patching across Windows and Linux servers using tools like WSUS, Microsoft SCCM, and Ansible. Write and maintain scripting solutions (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, or Python) to automate repetitive administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency. Implement and administer Active Directory (AD), including group policies, user administration, and cross-platform integration with RHEL. Leverage monitoring tools such as Nagios, Splunk, SolarWinds, and Grafana to monitor health and resolve issues proactively. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper integration of Windows, Linux, and Nutanix environments into overall enterprise infrastructure. Analyze and troubleshoot system performance or configuration issues and implement long-term solutions to systemic challenges. Maintain detailed technical documentation, including system diagrams, SOPs, and recovery procedures. Provide technical support for application teams leveraging Windows Servers, RHEL systems, and Nutanix, ensuring seamless operations. Assist with evaluating and implementing new infrastructure technologies, tools, and processes to drive continuous improvement. QualificationsRequired Qualifications:Education:Bachelor's Degree Certifications (CWF Requirements):Candidates must satisfy Cybersecurity Workforce Framework (CWF) ID 451 (System Administrator - Intermediate Level) requirements, as outlined by Navy COOL . This requirement can be met by possessing one or more of the following qualifying certifications: CompTIA Cloud+ CompTIA Security+ GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) OR This requirement can be met through:A Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, IT, or a related field. Experience:6-10 years of professional experience managing and supporting enterprise-level IT environments. Technical Skills:Expertise in Windows Server administration, including Active Directory, DNS, and group policy management. Strong knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including configuration, management, troubleshooting, and security hardening. Comprehensive understanding of enterprise virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and managing VMs in multi-hypervisor architectures. Experience with backup and recovery solutions, clustering, and high availability (HA) architectures. Proficiency in scripting and automation using tools like PowerShell, Bash, or Python to streamline operations. Expertise in system performance monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., Splunk, Nagios, SolarWinds, or Grafana) for diagnostics and proactive issue resolution. Hands-on experience with network services (e.g., DHCP, TCP/IP, load balancing, and VLAN configurations). Strong understanding of security and compliance standards, including RMF, NIST 800-53, and DoD 8510.01, for ensuring infrastructure meets operational requirements. Preferred Certifications (In Addition to CWF Requirements):Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP) or advanced Nutanix certifications VMware Certified Professional (VCP) ITIL v4 Foundation or equivalent Clearance Requirement:Active TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with Poly. Work Environment and Notes:On-Site Work: All work must be conducted on-site in Springfield, VA. Program Scope: Supports on-premises enterprise IT environments, including virtualized Windows servers, MS SQL Server databases, and networking layers.
