Founded in 1946 we have grown to become a global specialty chemicals company that is a leading manufacturer of protective materials for high-reliability applications across diverse market sectors.Today we employ nearly 800 people and continue to grow and strengthen our business by employing a related diversification strategy that combines organic growth initiatives with strategic acquisitions.Based in Westwood, Massachusetts, USA we operate manufacturing facilities in the United States, Europe, and Asia and continue to invest in our capabilities in order to deliver value to our global customer base demands.Role OverviewWe are seeking an Applications Development Specialist with deep expertise in electronic materials and conformal coatings to support product development, customer adoption, and advanced technical problem solving.This role serves as the critical bridge between R&D, customers, sales, and marketing, providing hands-on technical leadership from pre-sales evaluation through customer implementation and lifecycle support.The ideal candidate is hands-on, customer-facing, and highly technical, with the ability to diagnose and solve complex coating challenges in high-reliability electronics environments.Technical Leadership & Application DevelopmentServe as the subject matter expert for conformal coating materials, including acrylics, urethanes, silicones, and hybrid chemistriesPartner with R&D on process development, material selection, and application optimizationDesign and execute application trials, design of experiments (DOE), and validation testingLead customer trials, proof-of-concept builds, and technical evaluationsProvide on-site and remote technical support, including audits and training sessionsCollaborate with commercial teams to support pre-sales evaluations, technical presentations, and product demonstrationsProblem Solving & Performance OptimizationTroubleshoot coating performance issues, including adhesion, coverage uniformity, cure performance (UV, moisture, thermal), defects, and long-term reliabilityConduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actionsProduct Qualification & ComplianceLead and support industry qualification testing (e.g., IPC-CC-830, UL746E, MIL-I-46058C)Define application specifications, process windows, and product performance limitationsNew Product Introduction (NPI) & Lifecycle SupportSupport new product introduction by ensuring fit-for-use validation in customer applicationsDevelop application notes, technical documentation, and product launch materialsPartner with marketing to translate technical capabilities into customer-facing value propositionsConduct competitive benchmarking and communicate insights to internal stakeholdersParticipate in relevant industry committees, standards bodies, and technical forumsQualifications3–8+ years of experience in electronic materials, coatings, or PCBA manufacturing environmentsExperience with conformal coating of PCBAs and electronics testing/reliability validationExposure to battery and/or power electronics applicationsFamiliarity with coating chemistries (epoxy, urethane, acrylic, silicone, UV- and moisture-curable systems)Working knowledge of coating processes (spray, dip, selective coating) and IPC standardsAbility to design and execute experiments (DOE) and interpret resultsStrong communication skills with customer-facing experienceEducationB.S. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fieldJ-18808-Ljbffr
