Job Summary
At Davis Tool & Machine, we are seeking a Machinist with Swiss-type Lathe experience to help us set up and operate our new Citizen L20. The CNC Machinist - Swiss is responsible for manufacturing components for the food production, fluid transfer, and cryogenics industries. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and a willingness to learn and grow with the company. The CNC Machinist - Swiss will collaborate with other employees and with management to ensure the customer's expectations are met and exceeded. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Swiss machining, a desire to help us continuously improve, and a commitment to producing high-quality products that are right the first time, every time.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Set up, edit programs, and operate a Citizen L20.
· May be asked to operate a lathe, hone (once trained), or machining center during long runs on the Swiss machine.
· Inspect and maintain tooling for wear, damage, and proper alignment. Replace or adjust tools to ensure ongoing quality and accuracy.
· Monitor production using precision measurement devices such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure each component meets specified dimensions and tolerances. Adjust machine settings when deviations are detected.
· Perform routine preventive maintenance on machines, including lubrication, cleaning, and inspection to minimize machine downtime.
· Adhere to safety protocols while operating CNC machinery and maintain a clean, organized work area to minimize hazards.
· Troubleshoot manufacturing issues, including machine malfunctions and machining process irregularities. Collaborate with other machinists and management to resolve problems promptly.
· Maintain accurate production records, including output, scrap, machine settings, and issues encountered. Provide feedback to management for process improvements.
· Participate in process improvement initiatives, including discussions on tooling, product design, and operational efficiency.
· Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
· Ability to work semi-independently once trained and completely own the quality of your project.
· Proficient with setting up and operating Swiss type lathes (experience with Citizen machines is desired, but not required).
· Competence in using precision inspection equipment to reverse engineer, document, or inspect products.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
· Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.
Working Environment
· Required to use overhead cranes to safely handle products. May need to lift up to 50 pounds.
· May need to stand for extended periods or perform repetitive tasks.
· Willingness to work some overtime if necessary.
