Login to Apply Special Education Behavior Coordinator JOB STATUS: UNTIL FILLED POSTING DATE: 05/18/2026 POSTING NUMBER: 00007826 LOCATION: Special Education POSITION TITLE: Special Education Behavior Coordinator JOB DESCRIPTION Primary Purpose: Provides campus leadership and monitoring of the special education centralized behavior program. Ensures campus systems provide necessary components for students' individualized education plans and are in compliance with all state, federal, and local requirements. The Special Education Behavior Coordinator will work with campus administration and other district staff to provide quality special education services for student with severe social and emotional shortfalls. RESPONSIBILITIES Major Responsibilities and Duties Display an understanding of how to teach and support students struggling with social and emotional issues. Display experience and training working with students struggling with emotional and behavioral issues. Communicate closely with staff regarding the function of students' behavior and appropriate behavior strategies and interventions. Coordinate and monitor special education services and provide program recommendations for students with special needs. Be fluent in all LCISD special education programming options and provide guidance regarding required data. Assist in maintaining records for audit purposes. Oversee and ensure IEP progress reports are completed, archived in SuccessEd, and provided to parents. Address student achievement deficiencies by focusing resources and efforts to promote excellence. Provide input for the identification, review, and analysis of resource and equipment needs. Maintain accurate inventory list of all SERS materials on assigned campuses and be responsible for the return of all student materials. Keep administration and staff informed on pertinent matters and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals. Respond to parent/staff concerns in a professional and timely manner. Provide professional development/on-site training as needs arise. Provide district-wide training and professional development for teachers and paraprofessionals on specific topics related to student IEP implementation. Provide leadership for staff to maintain focus upon students' needs related to IEP implementation. Promote and model collaboration between special education staff and general education staff. Delegate duties, responsibilities and activities in a collaborative and supportive manner. Assist administration with hiring special education staff. Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including workshops, in-services, and/or other available trainings for the purpose of increasing professional knowledge. Assume responsibility for professional growth and development by keeping current with professional reading materials and new research findings; and for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences. Observe professional ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics. Attendance at work is an essential function. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or Special Education Director. EXPERIENCE Minimum Experience 3 years of teaching experience QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree required Master's degree or 5 years of experience in Special Education including a minimum of 3 years of experience in an administrative capacity Valid Texas teacher certificate or teaching certificate from out of state in Special Education Valid Texas Driver's License Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program Special Knowledge/Skills: Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of disability related issues that may interfere with a student's access to the learning environment, including appropriate interventions and solutions Familiarity with legal and compliance issues (IDEA, state, and federal laws), as well as the Special Education referral process and response to intervention framework Knowledge of best instructional practices in a modified classroom (Resource), alternate classroom, collaborative/inclusive classroom, and for students exhibiting behavior challenges, including students with Autism & Emotional Disturbances Demonstrate personal initiative and motivation Handle confidential information discretely and professionally Able to work in a supportive, collaborative role with staff in all departments and offices Strong problem-solving skills, organizational skills and attention to detail OTHER INFORMATION Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Ability to concentrate (detailed work), communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures and data; reason, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, read, coordinate district functions, compile, compute, instruct, maintain emotional control under stress.
