Reporting directly to the CEO, this role ensures accurate financial reporting, robust internal controls, and precise cost tracking in a high-precision manufacturing and defense-adjacent environment. The Controller acts as an operational finance partner, providing real-time financial insights to production and engineering teams while maintaining strict compliance with industry and regulatory standards.This role manages a part-time office and ap administrator and the HR leader.We are recruiting for candidates willing to live and work in Hood River, OR. This role is not remote eligible.Essential Job FunctionsFinancial Management & Reporting: Direct month-end and year-end close processes; prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP-compliant financial statements.Cost Accounting & Operational Finance: Monitor Cost of Quality (scrap, rework, concessions) and track Work-In-Progress (WIP) and inventory levels to optimize cash flow and production throughput.Compliance & Audits: Ensure company financial workflows strictly adhere to ITAR, EAR, and AS9100 standards. Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and sales/use tax compliance.Operational Integration: Participate in project kick-offs and alignment meetings to deliver weekly cost data to project managers, enabling clear technical focus without administrative delay.Accounting Operations: Oversee accounts payable, general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet accounts.Systems & Process Improvement: Evaluate and optimize accounting software (e.g., Sage 100) and workflows to drive automation, standardization, and process documentation.Planning & Analysis: Assist the CEO with annual budgeting, financial forecasting, and variance analysis against actual performance.Direct supervision of the HR Lead and the part-time AP/Office Administrator.Education and Work Experience RequirementsBachelors in Accounting, Business Management and/or FinanceCareer showing progressive experience in financial management with increasing responsibilities for multi-faceted direction and planning.Experience managing the HR function of a company.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other CharacteristicsExpert in GAAP, internal controls, and cost accounting (job costing, WIP, inventory). Working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, AS9100, and FAR/CAS preferred.Proficient in Sage (or similar ERPs) with a drive to streamline and automate accounting workflows.Highly detail-oriented and collaborative, with strong communication skills to partner effectively with engineering and project teams.Patient, accountable, and committed to high ethical standards in a fast-paced environment.Due to the sensitive nature of the information and projects handled at this facility, this position requires U.S. citizenship.
