Surgery Scheduler The University of Miami Health System has opened a prestigious state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion continues to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community. UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. UHealth at Doral has 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy.The Surgery Scheduler assists with the coordination and scheduling of surgical procedures and serves as a liaison between physicians, medical staff, and other departments to ensure smooth scheduling operations. Moreover, the Surgery Scheduler works within the Surgery Department, as part of Perioperative Services at UHealth Doral, and strives to provide an excellent healthcare experience.Core Job FunctionsSchedules surgical cases and monitors various levels of pre-op clearances, ensuring schedules are current and accurate, while communicating with key areas on surgery statusWorks with EMR system to optimizes surgery room schedules based on clinical input and updates, completes case cancellations, releases surgery room time with timeliness, pro-actively proposes open room availability for other schedulingTracks key metrics and changes related to surgery schedules and documents in shared reports; shares insights with leadersCommunicates with surgeons, service line offices, pre-op units, external coordinators, surgical business partners, and supply chain, to ensure follow-though on the appropriate completion of schedulingCoordinates availability and delivery of medical equipment for certain procedures and surgical requirements, collaborating with business vendor partnersWorks with key web portals assisting ambulatory operations in scheduling and surgical procurementAssists with reviewing post-op case logs for completion as neededFollows up with appropriate departments to ensure all pre-op requirements are available prior to the procedureWorks with Patient Access Department to ensure key updates are made aware to the Department and passed along to the patients prior to date of procedureAdheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assetsCore QualificationsEducation: High School diploma or equivalent; College education preferredCertification and Licensing: Not ApplicableExperience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experienceKnowledge, Skills and Attitudes:Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formSkill in completing assignments accurately, timely, and with attention to detailAbility to process and handle confidential information with discretion and adhere to HIPAA standardsAbility to work independently and in a collaborative environment, amongst multiple areas of personnelProficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, SharePoint).Knowledge of Power BI preferredThe University of Miami offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, tuition remission and more.
