Engineering Associate

*Position Summary* Smartcon Solutions is seeking an Engineering Associate to join our growing engineering team in Glastonbury, CT. This is an entry-level engineering position providing an opportunity to develop practical experience in applications engineering, building automation, energy management, and smart building technologies.The Engineering Associate will support the design, documentation, configuration, and implementation of technology solutions that integrate building systems such as HVAC, lighting, controls, monitoring, and IoT technologies. The ideal candidate is technically curious, organized, detail-oriented, and interested in learning how engineering solutions are applied in real-world commercial and hospitality environments.This position will work closely with experienced engineers, project managers, sales professionals, field personnel, contractors, and customers. Some travel to customer and project sites may be required. *Key Responsibilities* * Assist with the engineering and application of building automation, energy management, HVAC controls, lighting, and related smart-building systems. * Support the development of system designs, schematics, control sequences, network diagrams, equipment selections, and other engineering documentation. * Assist with preparing bills of materials (BOMs), submittal packages, project documentation, and installation information. * Review project requirements, drawings, specifications, and other technical information to help develop appropriate solutions. * Assist with selecting and configuring controllers, sensors, gateways, relays, and other system components. * Support integration of building systems and technologies from multiple manufacturers. * Assist with system configuration, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and startup activities. * Work with project managers, sales engineers, field engineers, contractors, and other team members to help ensure projects meet design requirements and customer expectations. * Participate in customer and project meetings as appropriate and develop an understanding of customer needs and project requirements. * Assist with investigating technical issues and developing practical solutions under the guidance of experienced engineers. * Maintain accurate project documentation and communicate project status, issues, and technical information effectively. * Travel to customer and project locations as needed to support site surveys, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, or other project activities. * Develop knowledge of Smartcon's products, technologies, engineering processes, and industry standards. * Perform other engineering and project-related duties as assigned. *QualificationsRequired* * Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field; Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Automation, or similar disciplines preferred. * 0–2 years of engineering experience; new graduates are encouraged to apply. * Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. * Ability to read and understand technical drawings, specifications, and documentation. * Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. * Effective written and verbal communication skills. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word. * Ability and willingness to work onsite in Glastonbury, CT on a full-time basis. * Ability to travel to customer and project sites as needed. *Preferred / Helpful* * Internship, co-op, academic, or project experience involving controls, automation, HVAC, electrical systems, building systems, IoT, or energy management. * Familiarity with electrical or controls drawings and basic engineering documentation. * Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS/BMS) or building controls. * Exposure to communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, or similar technologies. * Experience with CAD, electrical design, programming, PLCs, or controls software. * Familiarity with HVAC, lighting controls, networking, or other building technologies. * Interest in energy efficiency, sustainability, smart buildings, and connected technologies. *Skills & Attributes*The successful candidate will be: * *Curious and eager to learn* – interested in developing technical expertise across multiple building technologies. * *Hands-on and practical* – comfortable connecting engineering concepts to real-world applications. * *Detail-oriented* – takes ownership of accurate drawings, documentation, configurations, and project information. * *Collaborative* – works effectively with engineering, sales, project management, field personnel, contractors, and customers. * *Analytical* – able to break down technical problems and work toward practical solutions. * *Adaptable* – comfortable learning new technologies, manufacturers' products, and software platforms. * *Customer-focused* – understands that engineering solutions must ultimately support the customer's operational and business objectives. *Work Environment* This is a full-time, onsite position based in Smartcon's Glastonbury, Connecticut office.
