Join Roche, where every voice matters.The PositionThis position is responsible for planning, executing, and analyzing scientific experiments in the development and integration of new molecular diagnostic assays on Roche cobas ePlex platform. This individual is required to have experience with IVD assay development. The ability to employ creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in conducting projects and troubleshooting is required. In addition, mastery in data analysis, experimental design, and evaluation of new techniques and procedures is necessary.You will initiate, direct and execute scientific research and/or development strategies through a combination of research staff and individual studies. You will act as technical leader for a development project and interface with other departments to coordinate product development & improvement. You will lead both from the bench (hands-on laboratory work) and from the desk (designing studies, analyzing data, preparing reports and documents, presenting in meetings)You will provide work direction and supervise junior level Research Associates as neededYou will maintain a high level of expertise through scientific literature, competitor products, and seminarsYou will anticipate potential problems and design preventative solutionsYou will determine strategic approach to experimental designYou willwrite formal plans/reports in support of FDA clearancesYou will create and develop new methods to achieve technical objectivesYou will integrate results with project and division objectivesYou will adapt to changing project needs and support technical transfer of methods to internal groups as neededYou may contribute toward or produce invention disclosures, patents and publicationWho You Are:(Required)You have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry or a related field with 3+ years of exerpience or a Masters in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry or a related field with 5+ years of experience or a Bachelors in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry or a related field with 6+ years of experienceYou have demonstrated experience with the following technical skills: development of molecular diagnostics through design control using initial development/feasibility activities; transfer to Manufacturing and verification and validation studies; You have demonstrated experience developing highly multiplexed nucleic acid amplification based diagnostics. You have demonstrated experience with digital PCR, next-gen sequencing, and PCR techniques. You have demonstrated ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries, customer inquiries or complaints as well as communicate effectively both orally and in writing with management, peers and individuals; You have strong problem-solving, judgment and decision-making skillsPreferred:You have demonstrated a mastery in data analysis (including various statistical analyses and DOE), research design, and evaluation of new techniques & procedures for products, systems or technologiesYou have excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and handle multiple changing projects and prioritiesYou hae demonstrated ability to integrate hardware, software and biochemistry. You have a familiarity with relevant FDA guidance documentsYou have the ability to work effectively, exhibit a professional manner and establish constructive working relationshipsWORK ENVIRONMENTThe essential functions of the job are usually performed in an environmentally controlled facility where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position may involve a combination of office and biotechnology laboratory environments. The employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, blood borne pathogens and automated equipment.While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee may sometimes be required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.This position is based on-site in Carlsbad, CA and Torrey Pines, CA.Relocation benefits are not available for this posting.The expected salary range for this position based in Carlsbad, CA / Torrey Pines, CA is $101,640 - $188,760. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
