Job SummaryAs a cardiac sonographer in the Cardiovascular Services area, you will provide total patient centered care for inpatient and outpatient patients in our local community and surrounding areas. The Cardiovascular Services area is a closed unit that provides IAC accredited transesophageal and transthoracic echocardiograms. The teamwork and collaboration does not stop between nursing and ancillary staff; the teamwork and collaboration with Advanced Professional Providers and Physicians helps provide patient-centered, guideline and study-proven care each and every time. The staff schedule is dayshift with call. The hours will be based on FTE but can range from 8 and/or 10-hour shifts. This area requires Basic Life Support (BLS) and Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RCDS) certification.ResponsibilitiesEchocardiogramPerforms transthoracic echocardiography studies according to protocol. Studies are consistently of good quality and meet IAC standards. Verifies physician order in the EMR 100% of the time. Provides structured reporting per IAC standards.Transesophageal EchocardiogramPerforms transesophageal echocardiography studies according to protocol. Studies are consistently of good quality and meet IAC standards. Verifies physician order in the EMR 100% of the time. Provides structured reporting per IAC standards.Holter and Event Monitor ApplicationAbility to apply holter and event monitor per physician order in the EMR. Provides education to the patient on application and troubleshooting of monitor. Registers patient in the holter and event monitor system. Verifies physician order in the EMR 100% of the time.TEE Probe Care and MaintenanceAccurately and proficiently performs cleaning and storing of TEE probes. Follows policy and procedure for cleaning and storing of TEE per manufacturer guidelines. Provides appropriate oral care to patients to prevent injury pre/intra/post TEE procedure.IAC Quarterly Meeting ParticipationMaintain specific education per IAC guidelines. Provides specific imaging reports to be submitted for IAC for quality assurance. Participate in quarterly meeting to maintain IAC accreditation.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesHeavy Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs with a maximum lifting of 100 lbs.Demonstrated knowledge of, or ability to utilize and understand holter and event monitor application, TEE probes, and ECHO machine; knowledge/ability normally is acquired through work experience or specialized course work. Demonstrated familiarity with medical terminology, cardiac medications, and cardiac arrhythmias. Demonstrated ability to maintain, adjust, and perform basic troubleshooting of event and holter monitors, TEE probes, and ECHO machine. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly, both verbally and in writing, with patient, physicians, and co-workers.
