Camera Image Quality Tuning Engineer

Job SummaryWe are seeking a hands-on Camera Image Quality Tuning Engineer to support Amazon Devices teams focused on video calling and imaging applications for Echo devices. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in camera image quality tuning, optics, image analysis, and camera validation using Qualcomm or MediaTek platforms.This role involves tuning and validating camera performance under various lighting conditions, analyzing RAW images, developing test methodologies, and optimizing image quality metrics such as sharpness, noise reduction, and color accuracy. Candidates should be comfortable working in a lab environment building fixtures, running simulations, and performing hands-on camera testing.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform end-to-end camera image quality tuning on Qualcomm and/or MediaTek platformsAnalyze RAW images and optimize image processing parameters including:SharpnessNoise reductionColor reproductionExposure and white balanceDevelop and execute camera test plans and test cases under multiple lighting conditionsBuild and configure camera testing fixtures, rails, moving object setups, and lighting environmentsUse MTF charts and image quality tools to evaluate sharpness, distortion, and noise performancePull and process image data using Python scripts and automation toolsRun simulations on captured images to determine optimal tuning parameters and use casesWork closely with validation teams to verify image quality improvements and document resultsUnderstand how lens selection, focal length, and placement impact image qualityGenerate tuning reports, SOPs, KPI tracking, and validation documentationCollaborate with algorithm, FPGA, and hardware teams to optimize overall camera performanceRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Imaging Science, or related field3+ years of hands-on experience in camera image quality tuning or camera validationExperience with Qualcomm Snapdragon or MediaTek camera tuning toolsStrong understanding of:Optics and focal lens behaviorRAW image processingImage quality metricsNoise analysis and sharpness evaluationExperience with camera testing under varying lighting conditionsHands-on experience building lab setups, fixtures, rails, and motion-based camera test environmentsProficiency in Python for image extraction, analysis, and test automationExperience developing test cases and validation methodologiesAbility to distinguish and troubleshoot image quality issues in real-world scenariosPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting consumer imaging or mobile device camera projectsUnderstanding of computational photography conceptsExperience with multiple OEM camera tuning programsFamiliarity with video calling/video chat camera optimizationKnowledge of imaging algorithms and how tuning impacts end-user image qualityTechnical SkillsQualcomm Camera Tuning ToolsMediaTek Camera Tuning ToolsPython scriptingRAW image analysisMTF chart testing and analysisCamera lab equipment and lighting setupsImage quality evaluation methodologiesWork EnvironmentHands-on lab environment with camera hardware and testing equipmentOnsite collaboration with Amazon Devices engineering teamsFast-paced development and validation environment focused on end-user image quality experience
