Administrative Specialist (Public Information Officer) (Unclassified) (Office of Communication) The City of Cincinnati is seeking a strategic and creative communications professional to lead messaging and storytelling efforts that advance the mission of the Office of Strategic Growth. This position will be responsible for creating cohesive, proactive messaging, managing relationships with media partners and sharing information through the use of social media and the City's website. This position will report to the Director of Communications in the City Manager's Office. Minimum Qualifications (KSAs): Knowledge of: Developing communications strategies and building relationships with media partners and the public. Economic development initiatives, public policy, and housing landscape. Strong organizational skills. Media relations and digital communications tools. Communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse populations. Skill to: Strong writing, editing and storytelling. Utilize Canva and Adobe applications. Utilize Microsoft Office suite applications or similar productivity software Ability to: Manage multiple projects with strong organizational skills. Understand and communicate housing and development concepts clearly and effectively Work with government agencies, nonprofits and business organizations. Interpret and apply departmental policies and procedures. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Research, analyze, and evaluate programs, policies, and procedures. Prepare clear and concise reports. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Follow all safety rules and regulations of the department to which assigned. Identify and respond to issues, concerns, and needs. Learn total quality management principles and practices. Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions. Prioritize multiple duties and manage time related to assigned area of responsibility. Examples of Work Performed: Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies aligned with economic development goals Create compelling content (press releases, reports, newsletters, social media, website copy) that highlight programs, initiatives and success stories Manage media relations and serve as a primary point of contact for press inquiries specific to the Office of Strategic Growth Translate housing and development language and policy into clear, accessible messaging Support marketing campaigns to attract businesses, investors and talent to the region Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure consistent branding and messaging Oversee digital presence, including website update and social media channels Prepares presentations, general and technical correspondence, and promotional materials; develops forms, tracking systems, databases, and spreadsheets. Works independently with recurring work on their own initiative; supervisor assists with projects or situations not previously encountered or where new/revised regulations or procedures apply. May assist in staff training and development. Required Education and Experience: RESUME MUST BE ATTACHED Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, English or Marketing plus two to five years of professional experience in communications, public relations, economic development or related fields. Experience may be substituted for education. Other Requirements: May require a valid Driver's License. Flexibility with scheduling, with the ability to work irregular hours as needed to meet the demands of the position. Working and Physical Conditions: Environmental Conditions: Office environment; exposure to computer screens; possible exposure to outside and inside working conditions; working closely with others; maybe required to work alone and unsupervised; may be exposed to excessive noise and moving objects/ vehicles; may be required to work irregular hours. Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking for prolonged periods of time; may require light to moderate lifting, reaching, pulling, and carrying; manual dexterity and audiovisual and linguistic acuity required.
