As we enter a period of significant growth, we are expanding our operational infrastructure to support an increasing portfolio of programs.Position OverviewWe are seeking a Director of Defense Operations to lead and scale operational execution across government programs and internal functions. This role is responsible for establishing and driving the systems, processes, and discipline required to support a growing defense-focused R&D organization. The Director will work directly with leadership to ensure programs are executed efficiently, compliantly, and at a level consistent with government and prime contractor expectations.This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strategic thinking and day-to-day execution.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn and scale operational strategy to support company growth and program expansionLead execution of government contracts (OTAs, SBIR/STTR, DoD programs), including deliverables, timelines, and reporting complianceEstablish and implement systems for program tracking, financial oversight, and operational performanceServe as the primary operational interface across internal teams, government stakeholders, and external partnersBuild, standardize, and enforce internal processes (SOPs, policies, compliance frameworks)Oversee budgeting, procurement, and vendor management functionsIdentify operational risks and implement scalable, long-term solutionsSupport proposal development and transition of awarded programs into executionRequired Qualifications5+ years of experience in operations, program management, or defense-related rolesDemonstrated experience supporting or managing government contracts (DoD, OTA, SBIR/STTR, or similar)Proven ability to build and scale operational systems in a growing organizationStrong understanding of program execution, compliance, and reporting requirementsAbility to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with evolving prioritiesExcellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional coordination skillsStrongly PreferredExperience working with or alongside defense primesBackground in a technical, engineering, or R&D-focused environmentExperience in small business or startup environments scaling into larger programsFamiliarity with federal acquisition and contracting processesWhy Join US DEFENSE LABSDirect leadership role with significant influence on company direction and growthOpportunity to build and shape operational infrastructure from the ground upWork on mission-critical technologies supporting national defenseClose collaboration with executive leadership and technical teamsHigh-impact role in a rapidly growing organizationEmployment TypeFull-time
