Freelance Junior/Medior Java Developer

We are looking for a Junior/Medior Java Developer for a leading European Union Agency, The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of mission-critical applications supporting European-level initiatives and services.The role requires hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Microservices Architecture, and Apache Kafka within an Agile environment.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.Develop scalable, secure, and resilient microservices.Implement event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka.Design and develop RESTful APIs and integration services.Collaborate with architects, analysts, testers, and other development teams.Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis to deployment and support.Produce high-quality, maintainable, and well-documented code.Perform code reviews and support continuous improvement initiatives.Troubleshoot and resolve application performance and reliability issues.Contribute to Agile ceremonies and project planning activities.Required QualificationsExperience3-5 years of professional software development experience.Experience working on enterprise-grade applications.Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.Technical SkillsBackend DevelopmentStrong experience with Java (Java 8+).Hands-on experience with Spring Boot.Experience with Spring Framework components including:Spring MVCSpring Data JPASpring SecurityMicroservices & IntegrationProven experience developing microservices-based solutions.Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.Experience with Apache Kafka.Understanding of event-driven architecture principles.Nice-to-Have SkillsKubernetes.Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).ELK Stack, Grafana, or Prometheus.OpenAPI / Swagger.NoSQL databases.Knowledge of secure software development practices.Experience working in European Institutions, EU Agencies, or public sector environments.Requirements3-5 years of experience in Java Development English (minimum B2/C1 level, both written and spoken).Knowledge of additional EU languages is considered an asset.Eligibility RequirementDue to the nature of the project and client security requirements, only candidates holding citizenship of a European Union Member State (EU Passport holders) can be considered for this role.What the Client OffersOpportunity to work on high-impact projects within a European Union Agency.International and multicultural working environment.Exposure to large-scale digital transformation initiatives.Modern technology stack and Agile delivery methodologies.Long-term project stability and professional development opportunities.
