General Duties and Responsibilities
This engineering role supports the design of coordinated, code-compliant, and constructible mechanical systems for building projects. Responsibilities include assisting with HVAC system layouts, learning engineering fundamentals and system applications, and helping produce construction documents using Revit. Work is completed under the direction of a Senior Mechanical Engineer or Professional Engineer (PE), with opportunities to build technical skills and take on more responsibility over time.
This position is a good fit for someone who is eager to learn, asks questions, and wants to grow within a collaborative engineering team. The role also supports project specifications and construction administration activities to help ensure the design is carried through during construction. This position reports both the Studio Director and the Director of Engineering, with day-to-day task assignments by the Mechanical Team Leader.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
Internship or co-op experience is preferred
Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
General understanding of building mechanical systems including but not limited to chilled water systems, hot water systems, multi-zone VAV systems, single-zone VAV systems, constant volume air and water systems
Understanding of ductwork and piping sizing requirements and guidelines, including grille, register, and diffuser sizing and layout
Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others
Willingness to learn, ask questions, and apply feedback
Ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks
Experience with Microsoft Office and Autodesk Revit; familiarity with AutoCAD
Ability to complete, analyze, and interpret HVAC load calculation results
Must be self-motivated
Shows interest in learning building codes, energy requirements, mechanical systems, and cross-discipline coordination through project experience and mentorship
Takes initiative on assigned tasks and asks for help or clarification when needed
Stays organized and works to meet project deadlines
Responds well to feedback and applies it to improve performance
Demonstrates curiosity and a desire to understand how and why systems are designed
Works well with guidance from senior engineers while building confidence and independence
Adapts to changing project needs and stays engaged in solving problems
Shows commitment to long-term professional growth, including progress toward licensure
Physical Requirements and Environmental Adaptability
Ability to navigate construction sites at various stages of development, from early site work through project completion
Performs work in both office and field environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions during site visits
Willingness to travel occasionally to support project and construction activities
Flexibility to support project demands, including work outside typical office hours when required to meet schedules and client needs
