The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in reading development and intervention, and a passion for helping students build foundational literacy skills. This role is critical to ensuring that every scholar has the tools to succeed academically and thrive in a rigorous college-preparatory environment.Key ResponsibilitiesObserve and assess students in various instructional settings to evaluate reading abilities and instructional needsConduct diagnostic assessments and analyze data to inform instruction and intervention strategiesDesign and implement individualized and small group intervention plans to support reading comprehension, phonics, fluency, and vocabularyUse evidence-based instructional strategies aligned with the Science of Reading and other best practicesCollaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administrators to align interventions with classroom instruction and goalsCommunicate student progress regularly with teachers, families, and administratorsProvide one-on-one tutoring and small-group instruction as neededFacilitate group lessons for students with similar instructional needsCreate engaging learning activities and materials tailored to diverse learnersSupport classroom instruction by modeling effective literacy strategies and coaching staff as neededMaintain accurate student records and progress monitoring documentationParticipate in all professional development sessions and contribute to a collaborative school culturePerform additional duties as assigned by school leadershipRequired QualificationsValid New Jersey K6 CertificationReading Specialist/Reading Certification preferredMinimum of three years of job-related experience, such as classroom teaching or reading interventionDemonstrated knowledge of reading assessment tools and intervention programsFamiliarity with structured literacy practices and differentiated instructionMust pass a criminal history background check and meet all state employment requirementsCompensation & BenefitsSalary range: $60,000$80,000, based on experienceSigning and Retention bonus availableComprehensive benefits package, including:Health, dental, vision, and life insuranceNJ State Retirement Plan (Pension)Flexible Spending Account (FSA)Professional development assistance & access to a lesson plan repositoryStaff referral programExtended time off during Thanksgiving and winter breaksEvaluationELA Interventionists are evaluated annually based on student outcomes, instructional effectiveness, collaboration, and alignment with school and state literacy goals.Skills & AttributesStrong knowledge of literacy development and intervention strategiesSkilled in assessment and data-driven instructionEffective communicator and collaborative team memberOrganized, reflective, and committed to student successPassionate about equity, access, and helping struggling readers reach grade-level proficiency
