We seek an innovative scholar committed to continuing Professor Carl Hunt's tradition of excellence in teaching, research, and service to the cattle industry.The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a robust, extramurally funded and industry-supported research program (60%) focused on both applied and fundamental aspects of growing-finishing cattle nutrition, including beef, beef on dairy, and feedlot management. Responsibilities also include training graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate researchers.In addition, the candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching (35%) in areas such as ruminant nutrition and feedlot management. The candidate will also provide service (5%) to the university. The position is an academic year, tenure track or tenured appointment, and is available at the Associate or Full Professor level. Rank and tenure are negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws.Research and education activities of the Endowed Chair will be supported by proceeds from the Hunt Family Beef Education and Research Endowment (>$2M) made possible through the generous donations of the Hunt family, colleagues of the late Dr. Carl Hunt, alumni, industry, and supporters of the Department of Animal, Veterinary and Food Sciences.Required QualificationsPh.D. in Animal Science or closely related to the domain of the position.Must hold the rank of associate or full professor.Record of research and publication in peer-reviewed journals.Experience teaching at the university level.Experience securing extramural grants, industry support, or competitive funding.Professional or research experience in the beef cattle feeding industry.Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students.Preferred QualificationsUnderstanding of maintenance requirements and energy efficiency across different classes and types of beef cattle, including the role of environmental factors in greenhouse gas emissions, such as methane.Experience with all aspects of feedlot management, including feed bunk management, least-cost ration formulation, growth-promoting implants, feed commodities, environmental considerations, and evaluation of final product quality and profitability.Ability to apply or develop skills in the use and evaluation of alternative feedstuffs and byproducts in finishing rations.Experience leading research teams and training students and farm personnel in effective feedlot management practices.Physical Requirements & Working ConditionsAbility and willingness to lift, move and carry up to 50 lbs.Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles.Posting InformationPosting Date 01/30/2026Closing Date – Open Until FilledApplications received by March 1, 2026, will receive first consideration.Application DocumentsResume/CVList of ReferencesTranscriptsLetter of QualificationStatement of ResearchStatement of TeachingOptional DocumentsOptional documents may include research proposals, teaching plans, or additional supporting materials.Supplemental QuestionsRequired fields are indicated with an asterisk (*).How did you hear about this employment opportunity?
