Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Pediatrics Discipline: RN Start Date: 04/06/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Apr 6, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a mixed Pediatrics/Med-Surg Telemetry unit, requiring at least 3 years of experience and the ability to care for both adult and pediatric patients on night shifts. Details Acute care hospital setting on a mixed Med-Surg Telemetry (MST) and Pediatrics unit with 10 beds Cares for both adult and pediatric patients; the ratio of adults to pediatric patients varies, and at times adult patients may outnumber pediatric patients Pediatric patient population includes respiratory illnesses (RSV, Influenza, COVID), seizures (chronic), dehydration, appendectomy, and failure to thrive (FTT) — med-surg level only; patients requiring higher acuity are transferred out Adult patient population includes surgical cases (total hip & knee replacement, small bowel resection, hysterectomy, exploratory laparotomy) and medical cases (MRSA, C-diff, COPD, pneumonia, COVID) as well as telemetry patients (chest pain) No feeding tubes, trachs, or vents; staff will assist to stabilize patients for transfer if needed Patient ratios: Pediatrics 1:3-4, MST 1:5; nursing assistants cover 10 patients, and if no NA is available, RN takes 3 patients and provides primary care Telemetry is present for adult MST patients; remote monitor techs are available, but RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips; bedside monitors are used for pediatric patients High-flow oxygen administration to stabilize patients for transfer; BiPAP care for stable adult patients with chronic conditions Charting is done in Cerner 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730) Every other weekend required (Friday and Saturday nights) Travelers are first to float; floating may occur to the MST unit, MCU, or the birthing unit (mom-baby couplets); candidates with L&D experience may float to Labor & Delivery Holiday rotation required to distribute holidays fairly Low-census standby rotation in place Requirements Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license, must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses will not be accepted Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS — pending certifications will not be accepted Minimum 3 years of RN experience required Experience working with pediatric patients is required; must also be willing and able to care for adult patients Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam with a score of at least 80% within two attempts prior to receiving an offer Must pass a sterile technique competency (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) on the first day of orientation 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — references must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Driver's license required for consideration Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license is used to determine eligibility) Additional Information Candidate must be willing to care for both adult and pediatric patients and float to adult MST and MCU units as needed Charge RN manages approximately 50 inpatient beds across MST, Pediatrics, and an Acuity Adaptable MCU that admits ICU/PCU/MST-level patients Orientation consists of hospital orientation followed by unit-specific orientation based on individual experience (12 orientation hours) Candidates who fail the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or the sterile technique competency on the second attempt will be ineligible for CommonSpirit AZ and Sacramento-region positions for 6 months Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity Health, within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered A manager interview is required as part of the selection process Scrub color required: Navy American Traveler Job ID P-687483.
