OverviewPSI is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state. We have been in business since 1944 and have a large labor force of skilled craftsman with a full support staff of professionals who comprise of engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and human resources.ResponsibilitiesThe Welding Engineer will work directly with project engineers, structural and pipe departments, and quality assurance to provide welding support for construction and repair projects.This position provides weld engineering support for the company's ship repair and other projects.Expectations of EmployeeIs committed to the company values and adheres to all Pacific Shipyards' policies and proceduresPerform duties of his/her job and as assigned by ManagementMaintain a positive and respectful attitude and conduct her/himself with integrity and in a polite, professional manner treating customers and co-workers courteously and respectfullyCommunicates regularly with Officers, Managers, & Supervisors about the different divisions and department's issuesConsistently be on time for work, meetings, and appointments and deliver work projects by assigned due datesMaintain assigned work areas in a clean and orderly fashionMaintain and ensure the safety of all assigned equipmentPerform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standardsMeet productivity goals and quality standards as set by managementAbility to organize and prioritize to meet deadlinesFlexible work hours, shifts, and daysAssist in the engineering function for PSI and related entitiesKnowledgeable of terminology used in the various trade(s)General knowledge obtained through undergraduate studies in engineeringSkills/Technical KnowledgeGood attitude and personality with excellent interpersonal skillsStrong communication skills, both written and verbalAble to understand verbal or written instructions given and to perform correctlyAbility to handle multiple tasks and balance prioritiesWork independently to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical welding issues during steel fabrication projects and repairDevelop and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) in compliance with NAVSEA, AWS D1.1, ASME, MIL-STD, and ABS standards for structural and pipe weldingSelect appropriate welding methods (Gas Metal Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Tungsten Inert Gas Welding and Flux-Cored Arc Welding) based on material, cost, and requirements for steel and aluminum structures and pipeWork with Estimating and Production to interpret contract and design requirements to prepare professional-grade documentation and deliverablesMonitor welding production processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and participate in root cause analysis of weld failures or nonconformanceSupervise and guide welders to ensure compliance with welding processesSupport the development and implementation of NDT procedures including visual inspection, RT, UT, PT, and MT to validate weld integrityParticipate in product improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing weld quality, reducing rework, and increasing efficiency, including integrating semi-automatic and automatic welding technologyCoordinate with quality assurance, planning, production, and NAVSEA and ABS representatives to validate welding methods and inspection criteriaManage and develop welder workmanship and technology training to increase production ratesEducation, Training and ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; or High School Diploma/GED with 13 years of relevant experienceMinimum of 4 years of experience with increasing responsibility in welding or shipbuilding engineeringSupervisory experience preferredSix Sigma or LEAN certification preferredQualification/RequirementsMust show proof of your legal right to work in the United StatesThis position requires US Citizenship due to security clearance required for base accessMust be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)Must be able to successfully obtain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sitesAll candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening and a background check before employment begins.
