Software Engineer, Platform (Developer Experience)
Overview
In this role you will advance Benchling's Platform by building tooling that speeds up development, testing, and production releases. You will collaborate with Release Engineering and Developer Productivity to reduce time-to-production and improve developer happiness. You’ll iterate on developer experience using feedback and scale our tooling and processes. This position places you at the intersection of engineering efficiency and product quality, contributing to Benchling’s mission to accelerate biotech innovation with AI-enabled workflows. You will work in a hybrid, cross-functional environment that values hands-on impact and customer empathy.

ResponsibilitiesBuild and implement tooling for efficient development, testing, and packaging for production releases.Design and develop release tooling to enable code changes to reach production within 10 minutes.Iterate on developer experience improvements using qualitative and quantitative feedback.Implement feedback loops that integrate quality into software development workflows.Promote effective engineering and operational patterns across the Engineering organization.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address workflow challenges affecting developer productivity.Partner with product managers and designers to keep software development a positive experience.Contribute to scaling the product and the team, maturing tooling and processes.Help shape hiring and engineering practices as part of the engineering function.
Key requirements4+ years of software engineering experience.Experience shipping code with a product-first mindset and real-world impact.Proficiency with at least one web framework, preferably Node or Python.Strong problem-solving abilities and responsiveness to feedback.Ownership mindset and comfort building key product pieces.Customer empathy and curiosity about developers' challenges.Interest in learning about life sciences, with a willingness to learn.customer empathycross-functional communicationownershipproblem solvingcuriosityweb frameworks (Node.js, Python)
