We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).As a Lead Software Development Engineer within Advisor Services Technology, you will help build, modernize, and support critical wealth management platform capabilities that enable rebalancing, trading workflows, and data processing.This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, making thoughtful decisions in production-critical environments, and delivering scalable solutions that improve platform stability, performance, and resiliency.You will collaborate across engineering, product, and business teams to translate workflow needs into effective technical solutions while contributing to modernization efforts across APIs, batch workflows, data pipelines, microservices, and cloud-ready architectures. Your work will directly support reliable platform outcomes, strengthen engineering practices, and help Schwab continue delivering innovative solutions for advisors and the clients they serve.What you haveRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience8+ years of experience with Java and software development in production-critical systemsExperience building REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systemsExperience with SQL and relational database technologies such as Oracle or PostgreSQLExperience with data processing, batch workflows, and data pipelinesExperience with DevOps practices, CI/CD workflows, and Git-based developmentDemonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across APIs, databases, and batch systemsAbility to operate independently, make sound technical decisions, and deliver outcomes in ambiguous or fast-paced environmentsPreferred QualificationsExperience in financial technology, wealth management, advisor services, rebalancing, trading, or portfolio systemsExperience with frontend development using Angular or other modern frontend frameworksExperience contributing to Micro Frontend architecture, scalability, reliability, or performance improvementsFamiliarity with cloud platforms, containers, and KubernetesExperience improving system reliability through root cause analysis, long-term fixes, defensive coding practices, and resilient design patternsAbility to collaborate with business stakeholders and product teams to translate workflow needs into scalable technical solutionsExperience working in Agile or Scrum environments to deliver iterative, high-quality outcomesAbility to mentor engineers, elevate engineering standards, and contribute to a collaborative, adaptable team environmentExposure to artificial intelligence tools, frameworks, or applied engineering use cases that improve efficiency, automation, or decision-makingIn addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.What’s in it for youAt Schwab, you’re empowered to shape your future.
