We run a small portfolio of WordPress sites — a professional services site and a national real estate listing platform, with more in progress. They share a stack and a problem: they were built to look right rather than to scale, and now every new page is manual work and every technical issue compounds across properties. We're looking for one person who can do two things most candidates only do one of: write real code against WordPress, and understand how search engines read what you build. If you can do the first but treat SEO as someone else's problem, this isn't the right fit. If you can do the second but can't work outside a page builder, same. You'd own the technical side of these sites end to end, working directly with the marketing lead. The first month or two is in person because these sites are undocumented and you'll need to know which URLs are load-bearing before you touch anything — that context transfers far faster in the same room than over tickets. After that, work however you work best. This is not a design role and it is not a content role — writing and strategy are handled in-house. What you'd work on These are real, current problems across the portfolio, not hypotheticals: * *URL consolidation and migrations.* Pages reachable under multiple URL patterns, a mix of .html and trailing-slash structures, and a brand migration in progress. We need redirect maps and canonical strategy that consolidate without losing existing rankings. * *Templating large page matrices.* Service-by-city page sets currently hand-built in a page builder. We want custom post types with ACF-driven templates, so publishing a new page is a form entry rather than an hour of layout work. * *Listing and directory functionality.* Custom post types, faceted search, filtering and map integration on a WordPress-based listing platform. * *Core Web Vitals.* Page builder overhead and heavy embeds are hurting mobile performance, which is where most traffic lands. * *Structured data.* Schema across service and location pages, FAQPage markup where content supports it, and clean local business data across multiple offices. * *Intake plumbing.* Forms wired reliably into a CRM, call tracking, and accurate conversion events flowing to GTM and Google Analytics. Required * Strong PHP and WordPress development — custom post types, taxonomies, WP\_Query, custom plugins, hooks. Not just installing and configuring plugins. * ACF or Meta Box, and custom theme or block theme development. * Modern JavaScript with a build step; hand-written responsive CSS. * WP-CLI, staging environments, version control, and comfort at the hosting layer (caching, cron, DNS). * Demonstrated technical SEO work: redirect strategy, canonicalization, schema markup, crawl budget, and fluency in Google Search Console. To be direct — configuring Yoast or Rank Math is not what we mean here. We mean having personally planned a migration that didn't lose traffic, and being able to say why. * Ability to explain a migration risk to a non-developer _before_ it becomes a ranking drop. Nice to have * Elementor custom widget development. * Directory or listing themes (WP Residence or similar). * Experience with regulated industries — legal, medical, financial. * CRM and intake integrations. * Multilingual site experience. How to apply Send a short note with your resume. * Two WordPress sites you built or substantially rebuilt, with a sentence on what you specifically did. * One site where you improved organic search performance, and what you changed to do it. Search Console screenshots welcome. * Your GitHub, or a code sample showing custom WordPress work. * A short answer to this: _a site has the same twenty service pages published under three different URL patterns, all indexed, all with some backlinks. What's your approach, and what do you do first?_ Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour Work Location: Remote
