Mechanical Designer

Our client is seeking to contract with a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Designer. In this role, you will both create and check structural and mechanical design solutions, 3D CAD models, and engineering drawings for the conceptual and preliminary design development for advanced Generation IV reactors. Candidates must have extensive experience in mechanical/structural design and drafting using a mainstream CAD system.ResponsibilitiesCreate CAD models, optimized for anticipated future work, of detailed designsAssist with modeling structure for large, complex design projectsMaintain large assembly models in support of projectsCreate engineering drawings, applying ASME 14.1 and Y15.5 standardsCheck engineering drawings for equipment arrangements, piping arrangements, isometrics, layouts, machine design, mechanical system, etc. verify information represented is accurate and drafting standards are metVerify fit, form, and function for completeness of designsPerform tolerance stack-up analysis in support of design verificationOversee model space for clash detection and lead resolution activitiesAssist with the development of group design standardsAssist in the coordination of CAD group deliverablesKey Qualifications and Skills:Min. Trade school certificate, associate degree preferred, in design-related program with 3 to 10+ years of experienceProficiency with CAD programs, SolidWorks/AutoCAD preferredDemonstrated experience in mechanical systems and machine design.Demonstrated experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5Demonstrated experience with tolerance analysis stack-upsExperience with plant layout, piping layout, PFD, and P&ID drawing creationExperience using a product data management (PDM) systemExperience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)Nuclear design experience is preferred but not requiredOrganized and highly detail-orientedExcellent writing and communication skillsStrong analytical/problem-solving skills, creative thinkerAbility to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problemsAbility to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work weekThe successful candidate will possess a high degree of trustworthiness and integrity, communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork
