Design Engineer

Required Skills & Experience • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.• 2+ years of experience supporting production vehicle development and launch.• 4+ years of collaborative CAD experience (3DX, CATIA, NX, ICEMSURF, or Alias), with 3DX and CATIA strongly preferred.• 4+ years of experience in exterior, interior, or vehicle accessory design and development, including supplier interaction and design release.• Demonstrated experience developing and launching vehicle accessories, such as:○ Roof cross bars / roof racks○ Bed covers / tonneau covers○ Other exterior or functional vehicle accessoriesExperience working directly with suppliers, not just internal design teams. Nice to Have Skills & Experience • Experience as a hybrid CAD designer and Design Release Engineer.• Strong structural and mechanical fundamentals.• Strong DFM/DFA and supplier‑facing experience.• Broad experience across multiple vehicle parts and systems.• Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes (stamping, molding, casting, composites).• Understanding of GD&T, craftsmanship, and CMF.• Hands‑on experience supporting builds and launches. Job Description The Advanced EV Development – Vehicle Accessory Product Development Engineer is a hybrid design and product development role focused on taking vehicle accessories from early studio concepts through engineering release, supplier development, and launch. This role is not a pure CAD designer position, but instead sits between Design Release Engineer (DRE) and CAD Designer, with strong ownership of design intent, feasibility, DFM, supplier coordination, and structural performance.The engineer works closely with studio design, core vehicle engineering, and suppliers to develop accessories such as roof cross bars, roof racks, tonneau/bed covers, and other exterior accessories, ensuring they meet functional, structural, aesthetic, cost, and manufacturing requirements. The role requires broad experience across multiple part types and strong judgment from a production and contract perspective, balancing design vision with real-world manufacturing constraints.
