Overview
Summary: The purpose of the cooperative experience is to provide a semester long hands-on experience. Werfen hires students with leadership potential and proven academic success. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving abilities. The Electrical Engineering group has an opening for a Fall co-op who will contribute to the development of the next generation of medical diagnostic instruments. Product development activities include taking concepts through feasibility into engineering and manufacturing prototypes. The candidate should be comfortable both working independently and in project teams and needs to be interested in hands-on laboratory work.
Responsibilities
Key Accountabilities: To perform entry level work of a routine nature requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related tasks. The co-pp will be involved in the day-to-day activities of the team included aiding other departments as they relate to department projects. We expect the co-op to gain an in-depth knowledge of the product and its associated processes, particularly the process activities in-which they will be directly involved. The co-op will have opportunities to assist in nearly all aspects of the workflow. Key Attributes: Requires confidence in using Microsoft Word and Excel tools. Requires Enthusiasm, motivation, initiative and ability to work within an interactive and energetic workplace. Review process procedures, change orders, equipment specifications, validation plans, and reports. Performs research on technology, equipment and tooling to improve process quality, yield or cost. Generates proposals based on research. Assistance in creating, reviewing and maintaining department files. Performs experiments, analyzes and interprets numerical data from experiments. Summarizes findings by computer readouts, statistical summaries, graphs and other methods. Develops and designs test fixtures Develops code to automate measurements and analysis Designs prototype circuits and PCBs Tests electro-mechanical systems Participates in technical design reviews. Desired but not required: Experience with laboratory equipment including power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, data loggers, logic analyzers, and basic soldering skills. Experience with basic board/cable troubleshooting and prototyping. Experience with circuit simulations such as LTSpice. Familiarity with basic hardware coding (C/Python/Verilog). Experience reading and creating technical drawings (PCBA/cables/fixtures). Experience with Altium/PADs or similar EDA software.
Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge & Experience Required for the Position: Currently pursuing B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 2 college semesters complete. Ability to multitask. The hourly range for this role is $22/hr to $30/hr. Individual compensation will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience and grade level completed.
