Job SummaryThe Crane Operator Heavy1 responsible for operating a mobile or stationary crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads while safely operating and transferring heavy objects from one location to another.Essential FunctionsOperate specialized machinery such as telescope booms, lattice booms, all terrain, Rough Terrain, Crawlers, Industrial, Hydraulic Trucks, Conventional Trucks, Boom Trucks, and hydraulic cranesReview and follow lift plan for proper loading/unloading of equipment/objects and selecting the appropriate crane confirmation to meet the lift requirementsCalculate load capacity, determine weight of items to be moved in relation to the maximum capacity of crane based on manufacturers specificationsInspect clearances, overhead lines, and other possible obstructions to ensure there will be no accidents or damage to employees, buildings, loads, or equipmentInspect and assesses ground conditions to ensure that the crane can be set up safelyProperly set up per the manufacturer’s operators manual and company safety guidelines as required to perform job requirementsInform supervision of any hazardous or dangerous conditions observed before or during crane operationsReceive direction from riggers and/or site supervision verbally or by hand signals to determine required load movementUnload crane accessories from trailer(s) or support vehicle(s)Assess/monitor weather conditions prior to and during operationsProperly shutdown/secure the crane when unattendedUnderstand and properly fill out job ticket for customer to accept responsibility for jobsite and billingCease crane operations if an unsafe situation or condition is presentFollow appropriate safety procedures and maintain logs of vehicle repair status and working hours per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)Perform routine maintenance, pre- and post-trip inspections along with daily and monthly equipment inspections inspecting cranes for defects and wear; performs necessary repairs or maintenanceDirect activities of truck drivers or helpers in setting up and knocking down crane equipmentWear personal protective equipment (PPE) and properly barricades counterweight tail swing radiusDrive truck to worksites and unload truckComplies with all applicable federal, state, and company safety laws, guidelines, and best practicesEnsure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culturePerform other duties as requested, directed, or assignedEducation, Certifications, Availability And Experience RequirementsMinimum High School Diploma or GED required15+ years of experience in related field requiredPossess valid state license to operate heavy equipment requiredPossess a current NCCCO or equivalent crane operator certificationAbility to pass pre-employment qualifications such as drug test, background check, and/or fit-for-duty testSkills / Key CompetenciesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day informationExcellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing prioritiesAbility to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results orientedAbility to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detailAbility to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlinesAble to work non-routine hours, when necessaryAbility and willingness to travel as requiredPhysical RequirementsAbility to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areasWork long hours with moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another constantly perform repeating motions with feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers to include walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, bending, gripping, climbing, depressingExcellent depth perception and reaction timeVisual acuity to follow hand signals, maintain logs, and inspect and maintain machineryAbility to wear required and appropriate PPE equipmentOccasionally exposed to extreme temperatures, fumes, or airborne particlesExposure to moderate noise level in the workplaceAbility to operate job related toolsAbility to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with helpBay Ltd. is an Equal Opportunity Employer
