Shipping ManagerLocation: Gary, INCompensation: $80,000 to $90,000Benefits include medical, dental, vision.About The OpportunityA leading North American manufacturer and distributor in the industrial storage and organization sector is seeking an experienced Shipping Manager to support transportation and logistics operations across a multi-site network. This organization operates several manufacturing and distribution facilities throughout the United States and is backed by a well-established private investment firm focused on operational excellence and growth.Position OverviewThe Shipping Manager is responsible for overseeing all transportation and freight activities to ensure cost-effective, compliant, and on-time delivery of finished goods. This role leads carrier management, shipping operations, and logistics performance while partnering closely with production, warehouse, and customer service teams to support customer demand.Key ResponsibilitiesManage inbound and outbound freight across multiple modes, including LTL, FTL, parcel, and brokered shipmentsAnalyze and optimize freight spend through routing strategies, rate negotiations, and carrier selectionMonitor service levels, transit times, and on-time delivery metrics; implement corrective actions as neededManage relationships with carriers, brokers, and third-party logistics providers, including contracts and performance reviewsEnsure compliance with DOT regulations and internal transportation policiesSupervise traffic and shipping personnel, including training, scheduling, and performance managementCollaborate cross-functionally with production, warehouse, and customer service teams to align shipping prioritiesIdentify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce delays, and improve overall logistics performanceQualificationsProven experience in transportation, traffic, or shipping management within a manufacturing or distribution environmentStrong knowledge of freight modes, carrier management, and logistics optimizationExperience managing teams and driving performance in a fast-paced settingFamiliarity with transportation compliance and safety regulationsStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsAbility to work onsite and collaborate across multiple departmentsWork Environment & Physical RequirementsThis role is primarily based in an office environment with regular interaction on the plant floor or in warehouse settings. Conditions may include varying temperatures, elevated noise levels, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
