Finance Manager

We achieve this through client education, consistent updates, thorough assessment of each case, and customized legal strategies based on each client's circumstances.Essential Responsibilities and DutiesFinancial Management & ReportingPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including profit/loss, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.Monitor firm-wide financial performance and provide variance analysis against budget and forecast.Manage monthly and year-end closings, reconciliations, and journal entries.Budgeting & ForecastingLead the development and management of the firm's annual budget and financial forecasts.Work with department heads and practice group leaders to support budgeting and cost control.Billing, A/R, & Collections OversightSupervise billing team and ensure timely and accurate invoice generation.Monitor accounts receivable, aging reports, and collections activities.Address complex billing issues or client-specific invoicing requirements (e.g., LEDES billing, e-billing platforms).Trust Accounting & ComplianceOversee client trust accounts in compliance with IOLTA and bar association rules.Ensure segregation of client funds and accurate reconciliation of trust accounts.Coordinate with external auditors and support regulatory filings and audits.Team Leadership & CollaborationSupervise finance staff (accountants, billing specialists, A/P, A/R clerks).Develop and implement finance policies, internal controls, and best practices.Collaborate with HR on payroll, partner compensation, and benefits-related financial matters.Strategic Analysis & SupportSupport leadership with financial modeling, pricing strategies, and profitability analysis by practice area or matter.Provide financial insight for firm initiatives such as office expansion, technology investment, or lateral partner acquisition.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA, MBA preferred).5-8 years of progressive finance/accounting experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.Proficiency in legal accounting systems (e.g., Aderant, Elite, Clio, ProLaw).Strong understanding of GAAP, trust accounting rules, and legal billing practices.Excellent Excel and financial modeling skills.Strong leadership, communication, and analytical abilities.Preferred QualificationsExperience with e-billing portals and LEDES formatKnowledge of financial compliance specific to law firms (e.g., ABA Model Rules, IOLTA)Familiarity with partner compensation models and capital contributionsAbility to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced legal environmentKey Performance IndicatorsFinancial Reporting & AccuracyBudgeting & ForecastingBilling & CollectionsTrust Accounting & ComplianceTeam Performance & Operational EfficiencyStrategic ContributionWork EnvironmentHybrid Role-based in San Antonio, TX.A combination of in-person meetings and remote work.
