Sedation Recovery Nurse is integral to post-operative care and must demonstrate advanced knowledge of anesthesiology. They monitor post-operation vital signs, assess levels of consciousness, and carefully observe patients for any side effects from sedation.ResponsibilitiesUtilize critical care skills to assess body temperature and track other indicators of stability or complications.Administer diligent care via monitoring, assessment, intervention, and continuous reassessment.Assess patients' condition after a surgery has been performedMeasure, record patients’ vital signs and ensure that all vitals are within normal rangeMonitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to the doctorInitiate patient education programs to ensure that both patients and families are educated on procedures and medicationsUpdate charts, patient files, and recordsDetermine when patients are ready to be releasedCollaborate with the dental team on post-operative patient carePerform intervention duties in cases of post-operative emergenciesPerforms to the highest integrity by adhering to all government regulations, company standards, and company compliance programsOther duties as assignedQualificationsAssociate Degree or Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN)Registered Nurse (RN) certificationMust have an RN licenseMinimum 1 year Required or Specialized Skills:Valid BLS (Basic Life Support) from the American Heart AssociationA valid professional license within the state of practiceA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) credential from the American Heart Association is recommended and may be required for specific registered nurses and travel nurse positionsExperience as a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nurse in a hospital settingPreferred Skills:Recovery work with pediatric patients (preferred)Other specialty-related certifications are preferred and may be required for specific positionsACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferredPhysical Requirements: The nature of work requires the ability to:Effectively communicate and exchange information with patients, their parents, clinicians, and staffOperate a computer, keyboard, and standard office equipmentLift/carry up to 30 lbs and be able to twist, turn, bend, and stoopThe majority of work performed is in a clinical environment which may require availability for extended hours during peak periods.
