Construction Controller (Heavy Civil)Salary: $150K-$170K + Full BenefitsA leading heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Construction Controller to oversee all financial operations and serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership. This is a high-impact role for a hands-on leader with deep expertise in job costing, WIP reporting, and construction financial management within a self-perform environment.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & StrategyLead and develop the accounting and finance team, driving performance and accountabilityPartner with executive leadership to shape financial strategy and company growthBuild a culture centered on accuracy, discipline, and continuous improvementFinancial OversightOwn financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processesManage cash flow, including rolling 13-week forecasts tied to project billing cyclesOversee cost-to-complete projections, WIP schedules, and margin analysisIdentify risks early, including billing discrepancies, margin fade, and cost overrunsJob Costing & Operational AlignmentOversee job cost accounting across all active projects, tracking performance vs. estimatePartner with Operations to ensure accurate cost coding for labor, equipment, and materialsDrive accountability across project teams for financial accuracy and reportingSystems & Process ImprovementServe as system owner for Vista by Viewpoint, including configuration and reportingLead integration with project management platforms (e.g., InEight)Optimize workflows across accounting, finance, and project operationsImplement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce riskEquipment & Self-Perform FinancialsManage owned equipment financial performance, utilization, and internal rate structuresConduct analysis on owned vs. rented equipment and fleet depreciationEnsure accuracy of labor and equipment burden ratesCompliance & External RelationsOversee audits, tax reporting, and financial complianceManage relationships with bonding agents, lenders, CPA firms, and insurersMaintain financial documentation to support bonding capacity and company growthEnsure compliance with contractor regulations, certified payroll, and subcontractor requirementsPerformance Reporting & Close ProcessDeliver monthly reporting packages including P&L, cash flow, balance sheet, and WIPLead job cost review meetings with project and operations teamsDrive an efficient 5-7 day month-end close processQualifications7+ years of construction accounting/finance experience, including leadership experienceBackground with a self-perform heavy civil, marine, or infrastructure contractor requiredStrong expertise in: Job costing & WIP reportingPercentage-of-completion revenue recognition (ASC 606)Equipment cost tracking and financial managementProficiency with Vista by Viewpoint (implementation/configuration experience preferred)Proven ability to lead and develop an accounting teamStrong financial modeling, analytical, and problem-solving skillsAbility to communicate financial insight to both executive leadership and field teamsPreferred:CPA, CMA, or CCIFPBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldCompensation & Benefits$150,000 - $170,000 base salary (based on experience)401(k) with match + Roth optionsDay 1 medical, dental, vision, and supplemental insurancePaid time off + 8 paid holidaysLife & disability insuranceRelocation assistance available
