Construction Controller

*Overview* We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Construction Controller to oversee the financial operations of our construction projects and organizational accounting functions. This pivotal role involves managing comprehensive financial processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making through accurate financial analysis. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in accounting within the construction industry, with a strong emphasis on governmental, non-profit, and international accounting standards. As a key member of our finance team, you will drive financial integrity, optimize cash management, and uphold rigorous compliance standards to support our organizational growth and operational excellence. *Responsibilities* * Oversee all aspects of financial management for construction projects, including cost accounting analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure project profitability and fiscal responsibility. * Manage general ledger accounting activities, including balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, and month-end closing processes aligned with GAAP, IFRS, and regulatory requirements. * Supervise accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections while maintaining accurate records. * Conduct detailed financial report writing and analysis to inform project managers and executive leadership on financial performance. * Ensure compliance with SOX controls, governmental regulations, and nonprofit accounting standards by implementing robust internal controls and audit procedures. * Lead the management of accounting systems and financial software to streamline operations such as payroll processing, cash management, and treasury functions. * Perform account reconciliation activities including double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits verification, and general ledger reconciliation to maintain data integrity. * Support regulatory reporting obligations related to public funding or governmental contracts by preparing precise documentation. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve financial processes using spreadsheets and Excel data analysis techniques for enhanced accuracy and efficiency. * Provide leadership to managing accounting teams by mentoring staff in technical accounting practices such as cost accounting analysis, financial concepts, and international accounting standards. *Experience* * Proven experience in corporate or public accounting with a focus on construction or infrastructure projects. * Extensive knowledge of financial concepts including GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), SOX compliance, and regulatory frameworks. * Demonstrated expertise in managing accounting systems such as ERP platforms or specialized construction financial software. * Strong background in governmental or nonprofit accounting environments is highly desirable. * Proficiency in financial report writing, spreadsheet management, Excel data analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial management tools. * Experience leading managing accounting teams with a focus on finance team management practices. * Ability to perform complex account reconciliation tasks including balance sheet reconciliation and account analysis efficiently. * Familiarity with treasury management activities such as cash flow forecasting and banking relationships is advantageous.
