Financial Intake & Collections Specialist

DescriptionJob Summary: Position is responsible for collecting patient financial information in order to determine financial responsibility and grant eligibility for services. The duties include but are not limited to the follow-up of accounts financial information, collections of outstanding balances, and monthly reporting.Essential ResponsibilitiesCollect and verify insurance information (Medicaid, Medicare, Managed Care, commercial plans) during initial intake and re-enrollmentReview and update patient demographics and payer information as necessary for completion of claims paymentScreen clients for financial hardship, sliding-fee eligibility, and program-specific funding requirementsExplain financial obligations, copays, deductibles, and self-pay expectations in a clear manner Ensure financial and insurance information is complete, accurate, and entered correctly into the electronic health recordCoordinate with care managers and behavioral health admin staff to support timely access to programs and servicesVerify behavioral health, covered services, and authorization requirementsAssist with prior authorization requestsCommunicate coverage limitations to Behavioral Health servicesConfirm payer eligibility and effective dates at intake and ongoing as requiredPrepare monthly client and insurance billing and mail billsRecord cash receipts items (payments) into the Electronic Health Record systemEffectively following up on any unpaid balancesMeet quality assurance and productivity standards by identifying and reconciling insurance balance accounts Process credit card payments for client accountsCommunicate effectively all financial eligibility information to clients and respective departmentsCommunicate with insurance payer representatives, patients, and center staff to ensure timely and accurate resolution of account transactionsPrioritize assigned accounts to maximize aged accounts receivable resolutionReview explanation of benefit (EOB) documentation and notate accounts on collection activity to perfom account resolutionReceive inbound client calls regarding financial responsibilityFollow-up on open balances listed on monthly AR and Payer Follow-up reportsOther Responsibilities as assigned.Essential TrainingRequirementsQualifications:High school diploma or GED2-3 years accounts receivable experienceExperience in behavioral health billing preferredComfort working in a flexible, fast paced work environmentA disciplined approach to daily activity planning, setting goals, and achieving successMust be able to prioritize and work independentlyAbility to complete projects within a reasonable time frameUnderstanding of the revenue cycle process and how it relates to payers and clientsExcellent written and oral communication skills
